As the annual Summer Residency in Berlin draws near—July 24 - August 11—we have exciting news to share with you all.

John Newling's Artist Talk
We are pleased to announce that John Newling, a pioneer of public art with a social purpose and a regular visitor to the Berlin Residency, will be giving an artist’s talk—open to the public—on the evening of August 10 at Uferstudios. John’s work emphasizes concept, process and site of the work, alongside materiality and aesthetic properties. He explores the natural world, and social and economic systems. He innovates the possibilities and benefits for art and art practice in reframed social, political and conceptual contexts. There is news of John’s work and current projects here.
From Artist to Transartist
On Saturday evening July 29th artist and Transart faculty/advisor Jean Marie Casbarian is organizing and moderating From Artist to Transartist, assembling a group of artists, writers, curators who will discuss how they create and sustain their professional lives. The event will include a Q & A session and reception. Guests to be announced in June.
On August 4th during Session Two, An Paenhuysen will select an itinerary and lead a Berlin Excursion to be announced in June. Dr. An Paenhuysen works as a freelance curator, art critic, and educator in Berlin. In Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum of Contemporary Art in Berlin she has curated several exhibitions. With Wolfgang Müller, she curated in Hamburger Bahnhof an exhibition titled Pause, about Berlin performer Valeska Gert. Together they also curated Gesture Sign Art. Deaf Culture / Hearing Culture in Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien in Berlin. More recently, An Paenhuysen has been experimenting with art writing and curating at insitu Berlin. More about An here.
Danny Butt & Visiting MFA Students from the University of Melbourne
This summer a group of students from the Master of Arts and Community Practice program at Victorian College of the Arts (University of Melbourne) will participate in the residency during Session Three. The program's coordinator, Danny Butt, will present the Artistic Research In The Era Of Globalization workshop during this session. Danny is also a Research Associate in the Research Unit in Public Cultures, a member of the Auckland-based art collective Local Time and his book Artistic Research in the Future Academy is published by Intellect in 2017. There will be morning yoga sessions open to all during the three weeks of the residency lead by faculty and students in the program.
Dialogues and other Presentations
We eagerly anticipate the Evening Presentations and Graduate Dialogues as part of the regular evening presentation program together with a Graduating student event on Friday evening August 4th.
