Artist talk by Aleks Slota

Aleks Slota (b. 1978, Poland) is a performance and sound artist, he received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2003. He has performed internationally as himself and with the sound group OKO.
In 2017 Slota created sound performances for Reflektor event at WestGermany (Berlin) and DAF festival (Geneva, Switzerland), had a solo exhibition at the Exgirlfrind Gallery (Berlin) and was invited to create a site specific performance in Giardini Pubblici (Cagliari, Sardinia). The year 2016 was especially busy with performances during the SWAB art fair (Barcelona, Spain), at the Dynamics of Chaos festival in Teatr Academia (Warsaw, Poland), at the Faith and Terror festival in Meinblau (Berlin), at the Menschen! Krisen! Sensationen! event at Sophiensaele (Berlin), at the Performance im Hochhaus festival (Berlin), and four public interventions on the streets of Prague (Czech Republic). In 2015, Slota performed at various Berlin venues, including Vesselroom, L’espace de l’espèce, Meinblau Projektraum, and Erratum Gallery. In the same year he also had two performances at the Excentricités VI performance art festival (Besançon, France). 2014 saw performances at Arteles Creative Center, Haukijärvi (Finland), a solo exhibition at Tarleton University, Stephenville (Texas, US), and a video screening at the Laut KlangKunstFestival (Mainz, Germany). Also that year, Slota organized the Quiet Violence festival which featured a dialogue between sound and visual art at HB55 (Berlin). For three years, starting in 2013, he helped organize the annual Month of Performance Art in Berlin (MPA-B), during which he also performed. In 2013 he performed in Fylkingen (Stockholm,Sweden) and in 2012 at the Temporary Home (Kassel,Germany).
Since 2010, Slota has performed in the collaborative sound project OKO, engaging various musicians and visual artists for live performances and releasing the album ‘5730±40’ in 2013. He created two music videos for the experimental metal band Locrian (2013) and sang in the metal band Hexacron (2005). Slota is a member of the Association for Performance Art in Berlin. He lives and works in Berlin.
