Kirsten Johannsen



Kirsten Johannsen lives and works in Berlin, Germany. She studied scenography at the Academy of Fine Art in Stuttgart, visual communication at University of the Arts in Berlin, and she received a PhD from the University of Plymouth, UK.

In her studio practice, Kirsten creates interactive environments and sculptures that delve into the complexities of nature – its time and its passages. Her interest is concentrated on concepts of place and the way ‘home’ will be defined in the future.

Kirsten Johannsen’s works have been exhibited worldwide. Some of her objects and installations are in the art collections of the ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, Museum Ludwig Köln, Neuer Berliner Kunstverein and Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin. She has lectured at the Universität der Künste, Berlin, the Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst in Zurich, the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe and at the Bauhaus University in Weimar.
